Over the past few months our select team worked in the development and initial grand opening for Chicago’s newest club, Palace Nightclub. Our company was hired for initial creative space development and marketing strategy development. For all our clients and fans, we wanted to give a brief overview of the project, which social media online strategies were used, their results, and how the overall project was a total success.
Project Overview
Upon initial review, the venue was in bad shape on all levels of operation, marketing, community outreach and vendor relations. With years of pour management and utilizing this gorgeous space in more for Ala Carte dining purposes than larger events, the current direction of Alhambra Palace was at the point to either change it’s direction or closing it’s doors.
Taking the location under our wing in conjunction with Inside Hospitality, we realized that large venue direction was needed. Larger shows, larger acts, larger excitement, Larger WOW factor! Hence, the Palace Nightclub concept was born.
Marketing Development and Strategy
As Inside Hospitality attacked the operation’s foundation of the venue, our responsibility was
revamping the overall marketing strategy. Since the location brought tremendous value to not only the local clientele market, but was also a gem for the local tourism market. “If tourists are to visit Chicago, might as well show them the best that Chicago has to offer!”, reviewed Marty M., Head Concierge of McCormick Place.
Project Marketing Points:
- Online Social Media Campaign and Fan Building
- Event and Location Video Campaign Marketing
- Chicago Tourism and Convention Trade
- Local Community Outreach and Public Relations Marketing
- Local Promoter Relations
Online Social Media Campaign
We used a few traditional social media techniques combined with some new tactics to really push the vibe on the club. Using standard comment and posting, photo tagging, sharing contests, event creation and contest widgets, we were able to build the initial fan page to 1,400+ strong in just seven weeks. We first enhanced the overall Fan page to feel more like a website, creating an initial landing page, “Book a Party” tab, and “Win a Limo” contest tab.
With five weeks on the initial promotion for the 2010 Halloween Event “The Gypsy Curse Ball”, we had to use every trick in the book to gain the online vibe and ticket sales needed to produce the first quality event.
The ticket sharing contest was used to really push the initial numbers. Giving out a pair of FREE tickets for every 100 fans really produced some great results. Flier creating was also key and utilizing the tagging option to spread the word on the event was definitely a key factor. (See Halloween Flyer Below)
We were able to finalize around 375 initial ticket sales through social media and online promotions out of the total 720 tickets sold for the event. That was a 26% conversion ratio from fans to tickets sold on-line. A solid success with such a short time frame of online promotion.

Video
We also combined the use of video marketing on the initial Halloween Event and Grand Opening of Palace instead of following the traditional flier disbursement. Below is the initial product video that we produced on the launch of the club plus the event video produced for the Halloween Event. The combined effort gave some dramatic results when disbursed through our media channels using Julia Shell Public Relations.
Public Relations
A big step was connecting with the local markets through our media relations. Utilizing one of the industries top public relation advisers Julia Shell, would definitely play a large part in the success of creating a large local buzz for both Alhambra Palace and Palace Nightclub. Julia Shell has been known for her many successful years within the public relations sector and has more than an impressive client list that includes Cubby Bear Chicago, Mothers, Bootleggers, Chicago’s Culinary Museum, and Lodge Management. The hiring of Julia by Alhambra was a strong step in the right direction for acquiring a new vibe with the local markets on the nightclub.

Tourism and Convention Relations
Another big push with this project would be the relations with the local tourism and convention
bureau trades. Working direct with the local limousine companies, (i.e. Windy City) and tourism guides, reaching the almost 70 million + visitors to Chicago would be one of the top three strategies in building a solid business foundation for referral business to the nightclub. Two specific relations, Concierge Preferred Magazine and the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau, are the two specific companies/organizations that we highly recommend connecting with for building a solid relationship within the tourism market. Creating concierge and limo events, networking event attendance, and utilizing all services made available by each vendor would create a strong tourism exposure for the club.
Wrap Up
As of November 8th, 2010, our development and marketing design contract had ended and Palace Nightclub since then has been transferred to the in-house management staff to continue on with our strategies put in place. Over all, the initial event and Grand Opening development was a huge success, with over 25+ media write-ups, 1,400 Facebook Fans, 200+ Twitter followers (@PalaceChicago), graphic design placements, Facebook page development and event direction, and its first event housing over 700+ party goers. With the new management team in place for Palace Nightclub, we would like to wish them the very best on the club and much success with the overall venue.
